Stillwater bridge named for Dr. Harry Heath

Thursday, April 17, 2025   (0 Comments)

On April 16 a bridge on State Highway 51 in Stillwater was named to honor the late Dr. Harry Heath. Heath served as director of the Oklahoma State University School of Journalism and Broadcasting from 1967 to 1982, during which the school grew from 200 to 750 students. He was also a great friend to the OPA, leading news training courses as part of the "Harry, Terry and Mary Show," and wrote "Heath's Critique" column in The Oklahoma Publisher for 30 years.

The OPA Board of Directors voted to fund the bridge signs and Rep. Trish Ranson (D-Stillwater) sponsored the legislation to approve the naming. Pictured at the OSU Journalism Awards Banquet on April 16 are: Dr. Terry Clark, retired journalism professor and a longtime friend of Dr. Heath; Max Andrews, director of student media at OSU; Rep. Trish Ranson (D-Stillwater); and Mark Thomas, OPA Exec. Vice President. Mark joked, "Harry would not approve of the lack of punctuation in this sign." The bridge is located near the OSU campus.
