ONF Internships

Several newspapers or online news organizations will receive funding to host a paid intern in summer 2025. The program promotes the value of working at Oklahoma news organizations and benefits students as they begin their professional careers.

ONF Student Internship Application CoverStudent Applications:

Eligibility:

To receive an ONF paid internship, students must be:
a)  A U.S. Citizen or permanent U.S. resident
b)  Enrolled in a U.S. college or university
c)  Majoring in journalism, advertising or an equivalent degree program
d)  Enrolled full time as a sophomore, junior or senior during the 2024-25 academic year
e)  Demonstrating a career commitment to newspaper journalism

Salary:

The internship salary is $12 per hour for 280 hours with salary funding provided by ONF. 
Interns work between 30 and 40 hours per week for at least seven to eight weeks. Hosting news organizations are instructed to distribute internship salary as part of regular staff payroll.

Application Process:

Complete an application and submit the following documents:

a)  Resume' listing your work experience and academic achievements. 
b)  Three samples of your journalistic work showing a demonstrated ability in reporting, editing, page design, photography, ad design or ad sales.
c)  Personal photo (optional). Headshot or head/torso, at least 200 dpi.

Deadline:

Student applications should be submitted or postmarked no later than February 17, 2025.

Host Newspaper Applications:

Interested news organizations should complete the application below and will be considered by a committee of ONF Trustees. After a news organization has been confirmed to receive funding, it will receive up to $3,360 for the student intern's salary.

Preference will be given to news organizations that can offer both print and online/multimedia experience to a student intern. Each of the selected news organizations will have the option of hiring an intern from the student applications submitted to ONF or finding an eligible intern through its own hiring process.

Application Process:

Complete an application and submit a written summary describing the newspaper/organization, internship position, and the training and experience an intern will acquire at your paper. 

Deadline:

Host newspaper applications should be submitted or postmarked no later than January 15, 2025.
