MISSION: The purposes of this Association shall be educational and to safeguard and advance the newspaper and news media profession in the State of Oklahoma, so that both the profession and the public may benefit.

The Oklahoma Press Association is proud of its history serving Oklahoma’s daily and weekly newspapers, and now online news media. OPA is the oldest trade association in Oklahoma.

OPA has a colorful and vibrant past. Its first major project was founding the Oklahoma Historical Society in 1893. Since that time, OPA has worked tirelessly to advance and safeguard the newspaper industry to the benefit of the press and the public.

Today’s OPA is a strong, dynamic organization that looks to the future and serves members who are creating and navigating a new media landscape to meet the ever-changing needs of today’s readers.

OPA and its affiliates help companies with print and digital marketing campaigns, digitally track news and information, and understand the superior value of local newspapers when you need to reach an engaged and influential audience. Additionally, OPA provides educational programs, rewards excellence in publishing, and provides legal services to members. Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation assists college students working to become journalists through internships and training opportunities.

The association and its members are active in local, state and national government affairs. OPA works to defend First Amendment freedoms, improve access to information through open meetings and records, and to maintain a strong system of public notice. Oklahoma Press regularly publishes books on Open Meetings, Open Records and Public Notice in Oklahoma.

The OPA headquarters is at 3601 North Lincoln Blvd. in Oklahoma City. The association is headed by a board of directors elected by the membership. The Board directs the creation of programs and innovations for industry improvement through a system of committees and involved members, and has a full-time staff to carry out important work of the association.
