LSP Model Documents

We hope these model documents and policies will find helpful. You don't have to adopt or use ANY of these policies or documents. However, some papers have asked for guidance on these issues.

Some of these documents you will want to customize or alter to fit your specific newspaper. We hope you find these documents helpful and the LSP Committee will continue to work to help newspapers constantly improve and defend their legal rights.

The sample model documents are listed below with Word documents and text documents you can download and customize to your use.

 

MODEL LICENSE AGREEMENT:
To assist and protect you in licensing use of your copyrighted material to another entity.  (Added November 2021)

 

MODEL CORRECTION POLICY/PROCEDURE:
For you to keep on file in case a person asks your paper for a correction.

 

MODEL RETRACTION POLICY:
Retractions are different than corrections. State law sets some retraction standards that, if followed, can be beneficial to your newspaper.

 

MODEL COMPUTER USE POLICY:
Many papers are concerned, as are all industries, with use of their company computers for personal purposes. This model policy is intended to give you guidance in this area.

 

MODEL CEASE AND DESIST LETTER:
What do you do when you find a website is using your copyrighted material? There are many "scraper sites" that troll the web and pull your content and use it to improve their website. This model letter will help you combat infringement of your copyrighted material.

 

MODEL WORK MADE FOR HIRE AGREEMENT:
Newspapers hire independent contractors all the time. This document, along with Exhibit A, helps you with a model agreement for these freelancers.
