Monthly Public Notice Journalism Contest

Public Notice Journalism Contest

Enter and Win $100 from Oklahoma Press Service!

This new monthly contest (established in 2025) recognizes a news story or series that:

  1. highlights the impact of a public notice or the omission of a public notice,
  2. helps readers understand a specific public notice, or
  3. explains the consequences of a public body's failure to publish a notice in a legal newspaper.

A successful entry will usually result from the newsroom having read the public notices and recognizing a news or feature opportunity coming from the subject of a particular public notice. Stories should reference the notice; or if the story is based on a public notice requirement that was not met or was deficient, it must describe the deficiency.

The contest is not intended for editorials advocating for more public notice or opposing changes in public notice law.
