OPA Quarter and Half Century Clubs

Being a member of any profession for 25 or 50 years is not only a personal achievement, it is an important milestone that should be recognized. That’s why the Oklahoma Press Association recognizes the contributions of those who have served in the news media industry by inducting them into the Half Century and Quarter Century Clubs.

Anyone may make nominations for the Quarter or Half Century Clubs. Self-nominations also are acceptable. New members are inducted during OPA's Annual Convention. To make nominations in either Club, review the criteria below and submit nominations online or by email with a biography detailing years of service to the industry. Please include a color photograph of the nominee with the nomination form as well as contact information for the nominee.

OPA HALF CENTURY CLUB

To be eligible for membership in the Half Century Club, nominees must have worked at newspapers and/or online news publications for at least 50 years. Any 20 years of that service must have been spent at one or more OPA-member publications. Credit will be given for work as a carrier or stringer (including photographers and reporters) as well as wartime service.

To apply for membership: Submit a biography detailing your 50 years of service to the industry, include a color photograph and your contact information. Nominations must be received at the OPA office by February 12, 2024.

OPA QUARTER CENTURY CLUB

To be eligible for membership in the Quarter Century Club, nominees must have worked at newspapers and/or online news publications for at least 25 years. Any 10 years of that service must have been spent at one or more OPA-member publications. Credit will be given for work as a carrier or stringer (including photographers and reporters) as well as wartime service.

To apply for membership: Submit a biography detailing your 25 years of service to the newspaper industry, include a color photograph and your contact information. Nominations must be received at the OPA office by February 12, 2024.

HOW TO MAKE A NOMINATION

There are two ways to make a nomination for the Quarter or Half Century Club – online or by email.

A) ONLINE:

1. Submit a nomination as an entry at www.betternewspapercontest.com/OPA. The Division is “Special Awards” and categories are “Half Century Club” and “Quarter Century Club.”
2. Nominations must include biographical information, all contact information for the nominee(s), and a color photograph of the nominee.

B) EMAIL:

1. Email nomination to Lsutliff@okpress.com. Include biographical information, all contact information for the nominee(s), and a color photograph.

Inductees into the Half Century Club and Quarter Century Club receive their awards at the OPA Annual Convention.
