A-Mark Prize for Investigative Reporting

To recognize excellence in investigative reporting by Oklahoma print and digital media journalists.

FIRST PLACE: $5,000 to the reporter; $2,500 to the news outlet
SECOND PLACE: $3,000 to the reporter; $1,500 to the news outlet
THIRD PLACE: $2,000 to the reporter; $1,000 to the news outlet 

Awards will be presented during the OPA Convention in early June.

 

ELIGIBILITY:

Staff at publications that are current OPA legal newspaper members or general news media members, as well as non-member publications that meet the qualifications of legal newspaper or general news media membership in OPA.

Entries must have been previously published in print or on the publication’s website during the calendar year.

CRITERIA FOR JUDGING:
  • Journalist’s initiative and effort
  • Uncovering of facts that were unknown to the public and/or may have been deliberately hidden
  • An issue of public importance
  • Demonstrates excellence in storytelling, data collection and interpretation, documentation, presentation, and reader involvement where appropriate, and 
  • Results
ENTRY SUBMISSION:
  • One entry per writer.
  • Submit up to 5 articles published between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2024, on a single project/topic.
  • Entries must also include a written statement (500 words or less) outlining the background and scope of the work and any potential outcomes resulting from the reporting.
  • Any corrections or clarifications that were published as a result of the articles must be submitted.

    When submitting an entry, the Division is “Special Awards” and category is “A-Mark Prize for Investigative Reporting.” Submit full-page tearsheet PDFs (or URL if available only online). Indicate the articles/columns to be judged by typing the headlines in the Headline field.
  • ENTRY DEADLINE: Monday, Feb. 10, 2025.
  • All entries will compete together in one division.
  • No entry fee.
