Services set for Kay Dyer, Sally Maxwell

We are sorry to report the death of two outstanding women journalists – Kay Dyer and Sally Maxwell – and extend our condolences to their families.
Kay Dyer, who worked for The Oklahoman and her family newspaper, the El Reno Tribune, died June 15, 2020. She was 92.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held June 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in El Reno.
Kay was the first woman journalist promoted to city editor at The Oklahoman and Times. After 21 years at the Oklahoma Publishing Co., she joined the El Reno Tribune serving as news editor, publisher and editor before retiring in 1990.
She served on the advisory board for the Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation and was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 1992.
Sally Maxwell, former editor for the Sequoyah County Times, died June 14, 2020. She was 77.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Sallisaw.
A graduate of the Ernie Pyle School of Journalism at Indiana University, Sally moved to Sallisaw in 1979 and went to work at the Sequoyah County Times. During her 25 years there she served as society editor, reporter and managing editor. She joined the KXMX staff as senior news director in 2014.
She was inducted into the Oklahoma Press Association’s Quarter Century Club in 2006.
