Services scheduled for Brig. Gen. Richard "Dick" R. Hefton

Brigadier General Richard ‘Dick’ R. Hefton, former editor and publisher of Oklahoma County Newspapers, Inc., died Oct. 28, 2025. 

A service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 31, at the Westminster Presbyterian Church, 4400 N Shartel Ave, Oklahoma City, followed by a reception at the OKC Country Club, 7000 NW Grand Blvd., Nichols Hills, at noon.

Hefton was president of the Oklahoma Press Association in 1975. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame in 1987.

He was born February 6, 1930, in Muskogee, and graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a degree in business management.

He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and, after his tour, served 31 years of active duty in the Air National Guard. He retired from the USAF in 1990, holding positions as Assistant Adjutant General and Commanding General of the Oklahoma Air National Guard. 

In addition to serving as publisher of Oklahoma County Newspapers, which published seven newspapers, Hefton was the former president and publisher of the McAlester News-Capital, and executive vice president and managing editor of The Journal Record in Oklahoma City.
