Jenkin “Jenk” Lloyd Jones, Jr., last editor and publisher of The Tulsa Tribune, died August 23, 2023. He was 87. Services are scheduled at 4 p.m. September 1, 2023, at All Souls Unitarian Church, 2952 S. Peoria Ave. in Tulsa. Jenk worked for The Tribune for nearly one-third of a century in various reporting and editing positions and covering state and U.S. politics (including eight national conventions), the U.S. space program, environmental affairs, prisons and sports, plus the state capital and Washington, D.C. After The Tribune closed in 1992, he wrote for the Tulsa Sentinel and Golf Oklahoma and taught journalism or Oklahoma political history courses at the University of Tulsa, Oklahoma State University and University Center at Tulsa. Jenk joined his father Jenkin Lloyd Jones, grandfather Richard Lloyd Jones and uncle Richard Lloyd Jones Jr. as a member of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame. Survivors include daughter Janny Strickland of Dallas, Texas; son Landon of Englewood, Colo.; sister Georgia Snoke of Tulsa; two grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.
