Congratulations to all Award Winners!

The Oklahoma Press Association presented its Better Newspaper Contest Awards during the OPA Annual Convention, June 7-8, at the Sheraton Oklahoma City Downtown Hotel.

Also announced during the two-day convention were the recipients of the OPA H. Milt Phillips Award and the Oklahoma Newspaper Foundation's Beachy Musselman Award. James O. Goodwin, publisher at The Oklahoma Eagle, received the prestigious Milt Phillips Award from the OPA Board of Directors. Bruce Willingam, publisher of McCurtain Gazette, was awarded the Beachy Musselman Award by the ONF Board of Trustees.

In the daily and online-only divisions, winners of this year's Sequoyah Awards in the OPA Better Newspaper Contest were The Norman Transcript and Tahlequah Daily Press. Sequoyah winners in the weekly divisions were El Reno Tribune, Midwest City Beacon, Choctaw Times, The Purcell Register, The Keystone Gusher and Minco-Union City News. The Cameron University Collegian was the winner in the college division.

  • OGE Daily, Semi- or Tri-Weekly Photo of the Year to Richard R. Barron, The Ada News

  • ONF Joseph H. Edwards Outdoor Writer of the Year Award to Connor Choate, Marietta Monitor
  • ONF Ray Lokey Memorial Award for Excellence in Reporting to Clifton Adcock, The Frontier
